On May 7, 2023, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) La Union Chapter Youth Council, in partnership with the Provincial Government of La Union and the Local Government Unit of San Juan, La Union, commemorated World Red Cross Day with the successful Earth Dash 1 San Juan: Fun Run for a Healthier Planet. This initiative aimed to empower youth-led environmental action by promoting sustainability and community engagement.
. The success of the event was made possible through the support of partners including environmental groups like Coastal Underwater Resources Management Actions (CURMA), Dalumpinas Oeste Rangers (DOERs), business groups like Manna Bakeshop & Grille, Grafix Prints, and URBIZ Garden, and other groups like Rotary Club of San Juan. Through initiatives like these, the PRC La Union Youth Council, in collaboration with IFRC Limitless, continues to drive innovative, youth-led solutions for a more sustainable and resilient future.
Activities included a coastal clean-up drive, a beach run, community dancing, an environmental awareness lecture by Mr. Ramon Tamayo of CURMA, and the Seeds of Hope Commitment Rites, where participants pledged their dedication to environmental preservation. The event was also graced by Patricia Nichole Anne Bangug, La Union Mutia ti Kalikasan 2023, and Anjali Camacho Pradeep Kumar, La Union Mutia ti Agri-Turismo 2023.
Participants not only engage in a healthy and enjoyable outdoor activity but also contribute to a greater cause, whether through educational booths, eco-friendly practices, or environmental pledges. By merging fitness with environmental advocacy, the Earth Day Dash fosters a spirit of collective responsibility, encouraging people of all ages to embrace sustainable lifestyles and become active stewards of the planet.
