On September 28, 2024, Earth Dash 3 Bacnotan: Bee and Silkworm Preservation, supported by the IFRC Limitless Project, took place at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-North La Union Campus in Bacnotan, bringing together 200 participants, including Red Cross Youth members and advisers from various school councils across La Union. With the theme “Seeds of Change: Growing Green, Saving Bees, and Weaving a Better Future,” the event embodied the mission of IFRC Limitless: to empower youth-led initiatives that drive meaningful change in communities. Through the continued support of IFRC Limitless, Earth Dash has grown into a movement that not only promotes environmental sustainability but also strengthens the role of young people as catalysts for change.
Participants actively engaged in the planting of 150 tree seedlings, contributing to reforestation efforts and climate action.
They also took part in educational talks on bee preservation, which emphasized the critical role of bees in biodiversity and food security, highlighting the urgent need to protect these essential pollinators. In addition, discussions on silk farming and weaving showcased sustainable livelihood opportunities that blend tradition with innovation, reinforcing the importance of eco-friendly industries in local economies.
The success of Earth Dash 3 was further amplified by the unwavering support of LGU Bacnotan, led by Mayor Divina Fontanilla, and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, under the leadership of President Jaime Manuel Jr. Their commitment to environmental advocacy and youth empowerment played a crucial role in the event’s impact. The Provincial Government Environmental Office of La Union also lent its expertise, ensuring the event aligned with broader sustainability efforts in the province.
Adding further inspiration to the initiative, Miss Anjali Pradeep Kumar, Mutya ti La Union 2023 Agri-Turismo, shared her insights on the intersection of environmental sustainability and agriculture, encouraging young people to take an active role in conservation.
With IFRC Limitless at its core, Earth Dash 3 stood as a testament to the power of youth leadership in addressing environmental challenges. By providing a platform for young changemakers to take action, the initiative continues to pave the way for a more sustainable, resilient, and environmentally conscious future.
