Earth Dash 4

Mangrove Planting, Enrichment, and Rehabilitation Project

On March 23, 2025, Earth Dash 4 Luna: Mangrove Planting, Enrichment, and Rehabilitation Project, supported by the IFRC Limitless Project, was successfully held in Barangay Pitpitac, Luna, La Union, focusing on mangrove enrichment, planting, and rehabilitation. This initiative aimed to restore and strengthen coastal ecosystems, emphasizing the vital role of mangroves in protecting shorelines, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating the effects of climate change.

The event gathered Red Cross Youth members, barangay officials, and environmental advocates, who worked together in various conservation activities.

Volunteers participated in mangrove enrichment, reinforcing existing mangrove forests to enhance their resilience and ecological function. They also took part in the planting of 150 new mangrove seedlings, contributing to the long-term rehabilitation of the area. These efforts play a crucial role in fortifying the coastal environment, reducing erosion, and supporting marine life.

A highlight of the event was an inspiring talk by Ms. Anjali Pradeep Kumar, the newly crowned 1st Runner-Up of Ms. Hundred Islands 2025, who spoke about the interconnection of environmental conservation and sustainable tourism. She encouraged young people to take an active role in protecting natural resources and emphasized how preserving ecosystems like mangroves contributes to local communities and future generations.

Beyond conservation efforts, participants also engaged in community dancing, fostering camaraderie and celebrating their shared commitment to environmental sustainability. The event was a powerful display of unity, proving that collective action can drive meaningful change for both people and nature.

The success of Earth Dash 4 was made possible through the support of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Barangay Pitpitac, LGU Luna, the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Luna, and the Philippine National Police. Their collaboration played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s impact and sustainability. With IFRC Limitless as a driving force, Earth Dash 4 reaffirmed the power of youth-led initiatives in tackling environmental challenges. By integrating enrichment, planting, and rehabilitation, the initiative continues to pave the way for a healthier, more resilient coastal environment in La Union and beyond.
