Waking up before dawn on May 7, 2023, I felt a mix of excitement and determination. As a volunteer for Earth Dash 1: Fun Run for a Healthier Planet in San Juan, La Union, I knew this was more than just a run—it was a movement for environmental action.
As we laced up our running shoes, we weren’t just preparing for a race—we were preparing to make a difference. The morning started with an invigorating beach run, filling the air with energy and purpose. Running alongside the waves, I was reminded of why we were here: to protect the very environment that gives us so much.
Seeing the impact of pollution firsthand was an eye-opener, but it also reinforced my belief in the power of small actions creating big change. We also attended an inspiring environmental awareness lecture by Mr. Ramon Tamayo of CURMA, who emphasized the importance of marine conservation. His words fueled our commitment to continue advocating for our planet.
One of the most memorable moments was the Seeds of Hope Commitment Rites, where we pledged to be stewards of the environment. Planting 200 seedlings symbolized our promise to protect and nurture nature.
Earth Dash 1 was more than just an event—it was a reminder that when people come together for a cause, real change happens. As I reflect on the experience, I carry with me the lessons, the friendships, and the renewed hope for a greener future.
